“I used the term “political” because I have difficulty stomaching the idea that equality, physical health, mental well-being, and not being a dick to other people is a political stance. The belief that black lives matter is not the same as a belief in supply-side economics. Railing against sexism isn’t the same as lobbying for central economic planning. Respect for humanity, in general, should not be a political act…”

“After living thousands of miles away from my immediate family for a decade, I came to love and appreciate the idea of chosen family. I don’t live near these people anymore and it breaks my heart. With them, I don’t have to agree that people speaking out against injustice are playing “the victim card”. I don’t have to pretend I don’t drink. I don’t have to pretend that I’m not riddled with anxiety. I don’t have to pretend to be something that I’m not or be silent on issues that matter to me.”
