“I read a lot. I spend a lot of time on the internet. I sit thinking about what would make my life better, how I can flee this place, how I can get on with my life like I never wasted three years where nothing ever happens. I write words down as they occur. I’ve started writing on paper every day as a mental exercise. I do my homework and try to imagine a day when that’s all over and I live somewhere else and my skin and my sinuses are no longer screwed up.

Maybe someday I’ll have a life where I can sit on a bar stool at 1 a.m. and then weave my way back home where I will write the words that explain everything to me before falling asleep in the half-light of the pre-dawn hours. And then I will wake up around noon, make tea and avocado toast and write and think some more.”
