“The distraction is the past. I always head back there when the present is uncomfortable. I ignore the irony of this action. The past was worse than the present in many ways, but I look for familiar comfort there. There’s something satisfying about revisiting demons you’ve conquered or problems you’ve solved, even if the memories are on the scale of unpleasant to traumatic.”
